Slain DPO: Police confirm death of prime suspect in Rivers

THE Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the death of Gift David Okpara ( also known as General 2baba), the prime suspect in the murder of the Divisional Police Officer of Ahoada, SP Bako Angbashim.

Angbashim was murdered on September 8, 2023, in Odiemude community, Ahoada- West Local Council of Rivers State.

Confirming the developmen­t in a statement, yesterday, spokespers­on for the command, SP Grace Iringe- Koko, said operatives of the command, on February 17, at about 12: 00 a. m., received intelligen­ce that 2baba and his gang attacked Okogbe town and Odiokwu community, destroying pipelines. Consequent­ly, they moved to capture him.

Iringe- Koko said at about 4: 00 a. m., the operatives raided his camp but despite a fierce gun battle, the suspect and his gang members escaped. She said at about 2: 00 a. m., intelligen­ce confirmed 2baba’s death after he lost consciousn­ess and attempts to resuscitat­e him failed.

She said efforts are in progress to retrieve the body.

She revealed that several attempts to catch 2baba had proved abortive, adding however that more than 70 suspects connected to Angbashim’s murder were arrested and prosecuted.

The spokespers­on added: “The success was in response to the heinous murder of SP Bako Angbashim, the courageous Divisional Police Officer of Ahoada Division, on September 8, 2023, in Odiemude Community, Ahoada- West, by cultists. Viral videos revealing the brutal murder of the late super cop and the brazen display of weapons identified 2baba and his gang, affiliated with the Iceland secret cult.

“The operation recovered one AK- 47 rifle; one G3 rifle; one scorpion rifle; one double barreled locally made gun; two locally made pistols; one cut- to- size double barreled gun; one bullet proof vest; 13 pieces of dynamites; five rounds of 9mm live ammunition; army camouflage; assorted charms; one human skull; and one jack knife.”
