Ekiti Assembly vows to work towards common good

- From Charles Akpeji (Jalingo) and Ayodele Afolabi (Ado Ekiti)

I Nresponse to nationwide protests over the alarming threat of hunger, Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has launched a comprehensive initiative for food security within his jurisdiction.

Also, Ekiti State House Assembly said it could no longer pretend that all is well with the citizens, vowing to recommit itself and work towards the welfare of the citizens.

Speaking in Jalingo, yesterday, Kefas reaffirmed his belief that Taraba could sustain itself and contribute significantly to the national food supply.

Emphasising the state’s fertile land and the people’s strong agricultural inclination, the governor asserted that hunger should be inconceivable in a state dubbed ‘Nature’s Gift to the Nation’. His strategy, he said, encompasses various fronts, notably focusing on bolstering agricultural security and infrastructure.

Recognising the inseparable link between farm safety and food production, efforts to safeguard agricultural assets from threats, according to him, have been put in place.

Kefas stressed the critical role of armed security operatives in ensuring farmers’ safety and productivity.

Through a comprehensive mechanisation policy and proactive investment in agricultural resources, the governor said his administration would empower farmers and enhance yields across the state.

At the time of filing this report, the governor has enlisted traditional leaders, forming a high-powered committee headed by the Emir of Muri, Abbas Tafida, to galvanise efforts in boosting food production.
