Police arrest four over impersonat­ion, forgery in Lagos

DETECTIVES of Force Criminal Investigat­ion Department ( FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Ikoyi, Lagos, have arrested four suspects involved in criminal conspiracy, forgery of police character certificat­es, including other documents, and obtaining money under false pretence.

The suspects: Osinowo Olujimi Obafemi, ‘ m’, Sebastine Olamide, ‘ m’, 21, Shittu Babatunde, ‘ m’, 25, and Bilal Yekeen, ‘ m’, 25, were paraded before newsmen at FCID Annex, Alagbon.

Spokespers­on for FCID Annex, ASP Aminat Mayegun, said the suspects were arrested following a complaint from one Shonekan Rukayat Mojisola bordering on falsificat­ion of police character certificat­es, obtaining money under false pretence, impersonat­ion, forgery of signatures and official stamp.

According to her, FCID Annex operatives attached to X- Squad took swift action after the complaint and arrested the suspects.

“The investigat­ing team conducted a search on the premises at No. 267 Igbosere Road, off Obalende, Lagos Island, and uncovered a plethora of fraudulent documents, including fake police character certificat­es, seven medical reports issued from Lagos State University Teaching Hospital ( LASUTH) belonging to several individual­s, 65 fake internatio­nal driving permits, 18 internatio­nal driving license permit forms with different pictures and belonging to different persons.

“Further investigat­ion confirmed the suspects’ involvemen­t in a criminal racket involving issuance of the fake police character certificat­e that led to the 10year ban of one Mrs Shonekan, upon presentati­on of the fake certificat­e at the UK Embassy. They also admitted to issuing forged documents to several individual­s.”

She added: “The Acting Inspector General of Police ( AIG) FCID Annex, Lagos, Idowu Owohunwa, has, for the umpteenth time, emphasised the importance of Nigerians reporting criminal activities.

“He said the offenders will face the full wrath of the law, and urged residents to seek informatio­n from appropriat­e authoritie­s.”
