Delta CP parades nine suspects for possessing illicit drugs

DELTA State Police Commission­er, Abaniwonda Olufemi, yesterday, paraded nine suspected criminals for allegedly being in possession of three cartons containing 100 bottles of a substance believed to be Codeine and 400 sachets of 250mg of Tramadol.

The suspects include the trio of Lucky Emmanuel ‘ m’ of Ughelli, 40; Enunwuune Snu, 46; and Jacob Efedeye, 32. Parading the suspects at the police headquarte­rs in Asaba, Olufemi said three alleged drug dealers were found with some other suspected hard drugs.

He explained that operatives of the Rapid Response Squad ( RRS) arrested them on February 7, at about 11: 00 p. m., while conducting a stop- andsearch operation at HeadBridge Asaba, the state capital.

According to the police boss, the operatives flagged down their Toyota Hiace bus for a routine check. He said during the search, the illicit drugs were recovered.

He also informed that a 32year- old woman, Ugornna Nnanye, was nabbed with 284 bottles of a substance suspected to be Codeine.

She was arrested on February 16, at about 5: 45 p. m., by the police, who acted on credible informatio­n that she dealt in an illicit drug suspected to be codeine. He said the suspect is in custody and will be charged to court upon completion of investigat­ion.

The commission­er also paraded an old woman, Efe David, for allegedly being in possession of 175 rounds of live cartridges.

He said: “On February 17, at about 2: 20 a. m., operatives of the Eagle- Net Special Squad, while on routine patrol along Asaba/ Ibusa road, flagged down a commercial Sienna vehicle coming from Onitsha, and during a search of the vehicle and passengers, one Efe David, ‘ f’, 54, of Oria Abraka, Ethiope East Local Council of Delta State, was arrested with 175 cartridges.

Olufemi said some suspected armed robbers were also found with a locally fabricated Beretta pistol loaded with seven rounds of ammunition; weeds suspected to be Indian hemp; locally made cut- to- size double barreled pistol; seven rounds of live cartridges; four cutlasses; two daggers; and one axe.

While assuring Delta residents of adequate security, the CP said he had directed all Divisional Police Officers to sustain raids of identified black spots and drug dealers in their areas of responsibi­lity. He also directed them to embark on visibility patrol/ stop- andsearch operations, and ensure that crime and criminalit­y does not thrive.
