NLNG Calls For Entries To Literary, Science Prizes

NIGERIAN writers and scientists still have 37 days to submit their entries for the Nigeria Prize for Literature ( NPL), the Nigeria Prize for Literary Criticism ( NPLC) and the Nigeria Prize for Science ( NPS) 2024 Prize Cycle. Applicatio­n to all entries closes on April 2, 2024.

Sponsored by the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas ( NLNG), each prize is worth the sum of $ 100,000, except that for literary criticism, which is worth N1 million.

This year’s edition of Nigeria Prize for Literature focuses on Children’s Literature. Also, the Nigeria Prize for Literary Criticism focuses on Children’s Literature genre. Meanwhile, the theme for the Nigeria Prize for Science ( NPS) is ‘ Innovation For Enhancemen­t of Healthcare Therapy.’

In a statement signed by BEN Ochuko Apute, Corporate Brand and Identity Advisor, Nigeria LNG Limited, interested candidates are expected to apply as soon as possible. “We ask that you also kindly extend this call to all potential applicants within your spheres; prestigiou­s institutio­ns across every related faculty ( Linguistic­s & Language Studies, Theatre and Performing Arts, the Medical Sciences), Authors, publishers, profession­al bodies or organisati­ons and the likes, and all other institutio­ns or individual­s that could be interested.”

The last edition of Children’s Literature, in 2019, was won was Boom Boom by Jude Idada.

The organisers state that unpublishe­d work would not be considered and no book previously submitted for this competitio­n may be re- submitted at a later date, even if major revisions have been made or a new edition published. It insists that the prize will be awarded for no other reason than excellence.

Other relevant informatio­n regarding the requiremen­ts on the NLNG website is as follows:

“No member of the Advisory Board, Panel of Judges and members of their families can enter their work( s) for the award in the period in which they are serving and two years thereafter.

“No entries will be accepted from staff of Nigeria LNG Limited and their families. No entry submitted after the stipulated deadline will be accepted. Failure to meet all stated conditions above will lead to disqualifi­cation of the entry.”

For the submission procedure, all applicants are expected to submit their entries accompanie­d by an applicatio­n form obtainable online from The Nigeria Prizes website, www. thenigeria­prizes. org.

Completed forms must be printed and submitted along with the entries.

Twelve copies of the entry and an e- copy of each entry, with evidence of a Nigerian passport or National Identity Card), may be submitted either by the author or publisher.

The organisers said the books should be submitted to Nigeria LNG Limited’s External Relations Division, promoters of the prize, by the stipulated deadline and that no book published before 2021 will be accepted.
