CDHR decries delay in Bamise’s case two years after brutal murder

- By Eniola Daniel

THE Committee for the Defence of Human Rights ( CDHR), yesterday, lamented that two years after the brutal murder of 22year- old fashion designer, Bamise Ayanwola, authorities have remained uncommitted to giving justice to the deceased. Ayanwola got missing while returning to Ota from Ajah on Saturday, February 26, 2022, after boarding a BRT bus with number plate 240257 going to Oshodi at about 7: 00 p. m. at Chevron Bus Stop.

The bus driver, Andrew Ominikoron was arrested in connection to the incident but years later, he is yet to be convicted.

A police officer, Sunday Ihende, had insisted that Ominikoron sexually assaulted the victim and and caused her death.

He testified during crossexamination before a Lagos High Court sitting in Tafawa Balewa Square ( TBS) in 2022.

Lamenting, CDHR Chairman, Lagos State branch, Kehinde Adeoye called for the conclusion of the matter to give the deceased justice.

He said: “The case has been in court since March 2022. CDHR has been monitoring the case but it is so sad that up till date, the case has been suffering series of unnecessary adjournments.

“The other four persons; three men and one woman, in the Bus Rapid Transport ( BRT) bus at the time of Bamise’s brutal murder should be identified, named and brought to justice.

“The Android phone belonging to the late Bamise which she was communicating with her friend and sending vital information to her while inside the BRT bus and sensing danger, should be produced.

“The authorities should confirm to the world that indeed the murder suspect, Ominikoron is still in prison custody.”
