- From Tina Abeku, Abuja

Tfirst- class traditional rulers in Adamawa State have agreed to partner with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency ( NDLEA) to rid their communities of increasing impact of drug abuse.

The monarchs: Kuruhaye Dishon Dansanda II, Kwandi Nunguraya and Biyapo Bwaltam Bently Mboiman II, Murum Mbula, said they were committed to establishing sanity in their domains, even as they tasked the NDLEA to help curb the societal ill.

The agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, who disclosed this in a statement yesterday, said the monarchs gave their commitment during a courtesy visit to t he Chairman and Chief Executive Officer ( NDLEA), Brig Gen Mohammed BubaMarwa, in Abuja.

According to him, the monarchs affirmed that since the traditional institution is a respected system in the society, they must play an active and important role in supporting government’s fight against the drug scourge, especially at the grassroots where they have influential roles in communities under their control.

On his part, Marwa expressed appreciation to the royal fathers for their visit to support the work of the agency.

He said: “As respected traditional rulers in your domains, we encourage you to continue to partner with our commands around you, to engage in advocacy and sensitisation of your subjects on the dangers of abusing and dealing in illicit substances. “We have to work together as a collective to take this message to communities and every nook and cranny of Nigeria.”

Marwa also commended them for taking a bold step to identify with and support the work of the agency.
