-

Ia groundbreaking move to mark International Women’s Day 2024, Africa’s number one music streaming platform, Boomplay, in partnership with Smirnoff has unveiled the Black Phoenix campaign.

This vibrant initiative is designed to spotlight and celebrate the ingenuity of female artistes in the music industry, promoting diversity and inclusion on a global scale.

The campaign seeks to usher in a breath of fresh air by giving a voice and visibility to female creatives, who have historically been underrepresented in their respective industries. By providing a platform for these talented individuals to showcase their skills and creativity, the campaign seeks to inspire and empower a new generation of women.

At the heart of this initiative are four remarkable talents: Esther Olutosoye, Yakubu Blessing Jumai, Toxy Ken and Temitope Gabriella Akinola. Each of them is a powerhouse in her domain but only one was crowned the Black Phoenix for this year’s International Women’s Day. The project features the sultry vocals of TAG Blackie ( Temitope Gabriella Akinola); it introduces a three- track EP titled “Body Talk,” a testament to the talent and creativity of women in music. The EP includes captivating singles such as “Feelings,” “Macaroni,” and the focus track, “Jazz Me,” each showcasing the unique artistry and innovative spirit of TAG Blackie.

“In launching the Black Phoenix campaign, we aim to shine a spotlight on the incredible talent of female creatives who are often overlooked and undervalued,” said James Afuwape, Marketing and Artists- media Relations Manager at Boomplay. “Our partnership with Smirnoff underscores our shared commitment to fostering diversity and inclusivity within the creative industries.”

Abi Ipaye, Senior brand Manager at Smirnoff, added: “We are proud to support this initiative that not only showcases the phenomenal talent of these artists but also paves the way for future generations of women in music, production, and art. The Black Phoenix campaign is a testament to what we can achieve when we come together to support and uplift one another.”

As a champion of African music and culture, Boomplay recognizes the importance of supporting and promoting female creatives, and is dedicated to providing a space where their talents can flourish. Smirnoff, a company committed to diversity and inclusion, through its extensive network and resources, also aims at amplifying the voices of these talented women, showcasing their exceptional artistry and providing them with a platform for recognition and success.
