Burna Boy, Toni Braxton Deliver Unforgettable Performance At Farm Arena

- By Daniel Anazia

AFROBEAT sensation, Damini Ogulu, known professionally as Burna Boy, and Toni Braxton on Saturday, March 9, wowed fans at the State Farm Arena. The two music icons shared the stage for an electrifying rendition of Burna Boy’s RIAA platinum hit song Last Last, much to the delight of the sold- out crowd. Before bringing Braxton on stage, the African Giant hitmaker affectionately referred to her as ‘ the Queen’, sparking a thunderous ovation from the audience.

The audience’s enthusiasm reached fever pitch the moment Toni Braxton joined Burna Boy on stage, as they sang along in unison, showcasing their admiration for the dynamic duo. Their onstage chemistry was palpable as they showcased their immense talent, leaving an indelible impression on concertgoers.

Highlight of the performance came when Burna Boy seamlessly integrated Toni Braxton’s classic hit, He Wasn't Man Enough, released in 2000 into his rendition of Last Last, creating a truly unforgettable musical moment. Braxton’s voice beautifully complemented Burna Boy’s Afrobeat vibes, enchanting the crowd and creating an unforgettable experience.

The American music legend’s rare appearance at the concert captures the artistic intention behind sampling and the different manner in which finding inspiration in classic records can add depth and excitement to the listening experience.

Burna Boy is popularising the use of sampling with some of his hit songs, thus, sampling several classic records, as he had earlier sampled Brandy’s single, Top Of The World, at the 66th Grammy Awards when he performed Sitting On Top Of The World alongside 21 Savage. He had also sampled Jeremih’s Birthday Sex on his 2023 hit single, City Boy, off his seventh album, I Told Them.

His innovative approach to musicmaking, through sampling, paid homage to musical legends like Fela Kuti, thus, seamlessly blending classic records with his unique sound. This fusion of influences set him apart, earning him praise from fans and critics alike.

With sold- out shows in venues across the world, from the Lanxess Arena in Germany to the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Burna Boy has solidified his status as a global star.
