ORGANISERS of Glastonbury Festival, the largest greenfield music and performing arts fiesta in the world, which is focused on encouraging and stimulating youth culture from across the globe, has released the first lineup of artistes that will perform at the event.

In the lineup, the organisers named Grammy award winner, Damini Ogulu, well known as Burna Boy and his fellow Grammy nominated colleague, Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, better known as Ayra Starr, as performers at this year’s event schedule to hold from June 26 to 30 at the Worthy Farm Village of Pilton, Somerset, Southwest, United Kingdom.

They will join the star- studded line- up that include Shania Twain, Dua Lipa, Coldplay, Little Simz, Michael Kiwanuka and Mdou Moctar. The inclusion of Dua Lipa, who played at the event once before in 2017, Coldplay, SZA, and Shania Twain as headliners, the organisers said.

Founded in 1970 by the dairy farmer, Michael Evis, the Glastonbury Festival is one of the most- loved music events of its kind. It has retained an audience- first purist perspective, and through this attracting over 200,000 visitors in the past few years to the hilly community it is named after.

It has featured the Senegalese singer, songwriter, musician, composer, occasional actor, Youssou N’dour; Grammy award- winner, Angelique Kidjo; the Afrobeat act, Seun Kuti and his Egypt 80 band; Nigerian soul singer Tems and Zambian rapper Sampa The Great.

For Burna Boy, it is his third time performing at the Glastonbury stage. In 2020, he had performed alongside Taylor Swift and Kendrick Lamar at the festival’s 50th anniversary, while it’s Ayra Starr’s first time at the festival, an indication of her rise in the circuit, having also thrilled at prestigious spaces such as Dreamville Fest, Coachella and Athens Festival in the past few years.
