Group Tasks Govt On Farmers' Health To Boost Productivity

- From Matthew Ogune, Abuja

THE Abundance of Hope Initiative has called on government to prioritise farmers’ health, to avert decreased food production, increased medical expenses, and a diminished quality of life.

Speaking during a medical outreach, the initiative team leader of public interface, Lambo Hosea Chun described farmers as the backbone of the society, providing the essential sustenance that feeds the nation.

He said the organisation has began a medical outreach to save farmers battling elevated blood sugar levels and cases of Hepatitis B infection across the country, saying the move begun when the group conducted a medical screening for a total number of 57 farmers who participated in her medical outreach programme in Kabo, Gurara Local Council in Niger State.

According to Chun, farmers bodies are the group’s most valuable tools, noting that neglecting them can have serious consequences, not just for them, but for their families and communities as well.

He told the farmers that regular checkups, vaccinations, and screenings can lead to detection of health issues early, when they are most treatable.

A member of the team, Ramatu Abdullahi Umma who noted that the body focuses on Agriculture, the environment and climate change, emphasised on the need for regular medical checkups. According to her, the medical outreach will contribute to maintaining the wellbeing of farmers, enabling them to work effectively and be more productive.

Another team member, Danjuma Usman informed the farmers about the importance of monitoring blood sugar, noting that it can help farmers manage their energy levels and prevent complications associated with conditions like diabetes.
