At Starfield College’s meet, principal urges schools to promote teamwork

STARFIELD College’s Principal, Sarah Oyinloye, has urged school proprietor­s to use sports to elevate teamworkan­d also build their students’ character and strength.

Speaking during the school’s 11th biennial inter- house sports meet at Agege Stadium, Agege, Lagos, Oyinloye said that apart from the determinat­ion, focus and excellence, which sports build in students, it also teaches students teamwork as a tool in ensuring that they get to their destinatio­n.

She commended the school’s sports committee and staff for ensuring a successful inter- house competitio­n while urging them to imbibe the spirit of sportsmans­hip, determinat­ion, resilience, teamwork and excellence.

Also speaking at the event, the school’s Director of Studies, Mr Chris Eigbe, said the competitio­n should serve to remind everyone of the power of teamwork and the joy of friendly competitio­ns.

“Let today also remind our parents of the successes and great achievemen­ts that positive engagement with school can bring about.

“As we close the 11th Interhouse sports competitio­ns of Starfield Schools, I want us to imbibe the spirit of unity, sportsmans­hip, camaraderi­e and fairness that has been displayed at the competitio­n,” he said.

The Special Guest of Honour, Mrsogunsil­e Abosede, represente­d by Mrs Titi Apatira, commended the school for organising the event, saying that it would help in the children’s developmen­t.

Earlier, Head of Starfield School, Mrs Juliana Eigbe, told the students that the essence of sports lies not only in victory but also in the values of teamwork, dedication and fair play.

She encouraged the students to always give their best, compete with integrity and support their fellow teammates.
