At Conference, Knights Of Saint Mulumba Highlights Dangers Of Abortion, Drug Abuse
THE Knights of Saint Mulumba ( KSM), Nigeria, Lagos Metropolitan Council has called on the youths to shun drug abuse and desist from abortion.
They made this call at the KSM/ LSM Region Prolife Conference held at St. Peter Catholic Church, Ejigbo, Lagos.
Delivering a lecture on the theme: “Say No To Abortion,
Say No To Drugs,” the Associate Priest, St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Oke Afa, Isolo, Reverend Father Moses Ojobo, said abortion and drug abuse are prevalent issues that are bugging the mind of any critical minded person due to their harmful effects in the society.
He noted that life is God’s gift to the people to nurture and preserve, stressing it is not for people to take it.
The cleric argued that even within societal parlance, abortion is viewed in bad light and deemed unacceptable.
Ojobo said: "We believe that once there is conception, whatever the circumstances, if life has begun and it has been given, it ought to be nurtured and preserved.” On drug abuse, the priest said the aim of the church for holding the programme was to create the awareness of the negative imparts of abortion
among the youth and the ills of drug abuse in the society.
Urging people to understand that life is fragile, transient and short, Ojobo said, "once, we are able to come to terms with all these realities, we shall live well and to pay greater attention to our lifestyle."
The Grabs Knight, the Knight of Saint Mulumba, Ejigbo Sub- council, Odinaka Iwu, who identified the youths as more vulnerable to drug abuse and abortion, said all societal ills are interrelated.
Iwu, who noted that the programme held across the 32 sub- councils in Lagos, said the Catholic Church wants to prepare its youth to respect life, preserve it and shun drug abuse.
To achieve this, Iwu disclosed that it is necessary to educate the youths on the realities of abortion and hard drug abuse in the society.
