Police nab eight suspects over murder of six officers in Delta
THE Police have arrested eight suspects in connection with the brutal killing of six officers ambushed in February 23 and 26, in Ughelli, Delta State.
Spokesperson for the Force headquarters, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi who confirmed the arrest, explained that "five suspects were initially arrested shortly after the incident, and now an additional three suspects were apprehended at different locations in the state."
According to him, their arrest followed statements and cooperation of the five previously arrested, bringing the total number of arrests so far to eight.
He said: "The officers were on a fact finding and rescue mission when some hoodlums ambushed them, resulting to the death of six of them, while six others are still missing in action.
"The Police, through intensive investigations had made significant progress on the matter, and would not relent until all those involved in this reprehensible act, and many alike, are brought to justice swiftly and decisively.
"We wish to reiterate that killers of our officers in this extant case, and many others, have murdered peace, and none of them will go unpunished.
"The arrested suspects are currently in custody, assisting with the ongoing investigation, but they will soon have their day in court, with credible evidence, once investigations are concluded.” Adejobi, however, expressed sadness over the heinous act of violence against officers who were diligently performing their duty to protect and serve the community.
He stated that their thoughts and prayers are with the families of the fallen officers during this difficult time.
