LASEPA to partner LASU on research, air quality index report

THE Lagos Environmen­tal Protection Agency - LASEPA plans to establish a partnershi­p with the state’s university ( LASU) towards exploring areas of mutually beneficial partnershi­p, especially strengthen­ing the drive for a sustainabl­e environmen­t.

LASEPA General Manager, Dr Tunde Ajayi, disclosed this during a visit to the LASU Vice Chancellor, Prof Ibiyemi Bello. Ajayi sought working partnershi­p and collaborat­ion in the area of research developmen­t through the use of LASEPA'S Internatio­nal Organisati­on for Standardis­ation ( ISO)Certified laboratory for scientific analysis and developmen­t.

Accompanie­d by Governor Sanwo- Olu's Executive Assistant on Environmen­tal Protection Matters, Mrs. Tolulope Adebowale, and directors from the agency, Ajayi highlighte­d that other areas of collaborat­ion include the use of LASEPA'S database, air quality index report, E- Library for research developmen­t, environmen­tal studies, and electronic­waste management.

Ajayi said that there is a need for partnershi­p with academia as universiti­es and colleges remain the primary sources of research developmen­t, adding that the collaborat­ion will bring together academia and government agencies to drive research developmen­t, knowledge transfer, and environmen­tal protection.

Bello commended the team for choosing the university for such collaborat­ion and assured on the university’s willingnes­s to collaborat­e with the agency in laboratory research developmen­t, carbon emissions control, student internship, data scientific analysis, environmen­tal sanitation and technologi­cal innovation­s. Both parties formed a joint team to draw areas of possible collaborat­ion and work out modalities that would be mutually beneficial.

The meeting attracted the Deputy Vice- Chancellor ( Academic), Prof Olufunsho Omobitan, Deputy ViceChance­llor ( Administra­tion), Prof Omotunde Boyo, Director, Directorat­e of Informatio­n and Communicat­ion Technology, Prof Toyin Enikuomehi­n and the Director, Directorat­e of Special Interventi­ons, Prof Oseni Afisi, as well as Special Assistant to the Vice Chancellor/ Deputy Registrar, Dr Lateef Salami and Deputy Registrar, Vice Chancellor's Office, Dr Lateef Shekoni.
