HYPREP cautions Ogoni youths against re- polluting remediated sites

TProject Coordinato­r of the Hydrocarbo­n Pollution Remediatio­n Project ( HYPREP), Prof. Nenibarini Zabbey, has urged youths from the Ogoni Ethnic Nationalit­y in Rivers State not to indulge in activities that will jeopardise the clean- up exercise.

Speaking at the first quarter interactiv­e session with Ogoni youths and women to update them on the level of progress of the projects, yesterday, Zabbey urged them to take a united stance against oil theft and illegal artisanal oil refining to safeguard the shorelines from re- pollution.

Zabbey noted that the Project Coordinati­on Office must update stakeholde­rs on the progress of work quarterly for transparen­cy in line with its open- door policy. He disclosed that the Centre of Excellence for E n v i r o n m e n t a l Remediatio­n ( CEER) constructi­on in Wiiyakara has advanced, disclosing that the project is currently 47 per cent completed.

He also noted that the Mangrove Restoratio­n project contractor­s have moved to the site and have started preliminar­y revegetati­on activities in their work area.

In a related developmen­t, the project coordinato­r also spoke at the career enhancemen­t and employabil­ity workshop for fresh Ogoni youths, urging them to embrace the power of skill acquisitio­n.

He said: “To embark on this journey of self- discovery and self- improvemen­t, let us remember our ultimate goal: build fulfilling and meaningful careers that align with our passions and aspiration­s.
