- By Albert Uba

THE Nigeria Police Force have commenced investigation into the mysterious death of Deputy Commissioner of Police ( DCP), Gbolahan Olugbemi on Easter Sunday. The late senior police officer, celebrated for his role during the # ENDSARS protest on the Lekki/ Ajah Lagos axis, reportedly committed suicide in his mansion in Ogbomosho in Oyo State where he went to celebrate the Easter holidays.

It was gathered that the body of the 50- year- old police officer was reportedly found alone in his mansion. Until his mysterious death, the DCP served at the Force Criminal Investigation Department ( FCID) Annex Alagbon close, Ikoyi Lagos.

Speaking of his death, the police through the FDIC’S spokesperson, ASP Aminat Mayegun, said they were going to investigate his death.

She added that the former Personal Assistant to the late Deputy Inspector General of Police ( DIG), Israel Ajao and the late Commissioner of Police ( CP) Young Arebame couldn’t have committed suicide.

According to her, the police would probe who first saw his body, where he was coming from and who was with him at the time he entered his room, including who had his two handsets at the time of his death.

The Police noted that DCP Olugbemi from when he enlisted into the Force had juicy postings and was gradually nearing his retirement, stressing that his death has left much to be desired.

The late United Nations medalist in Law Enforcement and Administration, Olugbemi had served as the ADC to the late Oyo State Governor, Alao Akala.

He was Divisional Police Officer ( DPO) at Ilupeju, Area Commander at Ajah, Lagos, and he had earlier served as Personal Assistant ( Papa Alfa) to two Lagos State Commissioners of Police, the late CP Young Arebamen and the late DIG Israel Ajao.

Olugbemi, who had received training in Terrorism and CounterTerrorism in Operations, had received several awards in Nigeria and abroad, and he had been celebrated in the media for several good deeds in the course of his career.
