Lekki Port facilitates over 25,000 transshipments in 10 months
LEKKI Deep Sea Port Enterprise Limited has announced it facilitated over 25,000 transshipments from June 2023 to date.
The port, celebrating one year of commercial operations since its official launch on April 1, 2023, also managed over 100,000 containers.
The port management stated that with its capacity to handle 14,000 Twenty- foot Equivalent Units ( TEUS) container vessels, the port has demonstrated its effectiveness in supporting global trade.
In a statement shared on its Linkedin social media platform, the port management highlighted several achievements over the past year.
These achievements include berthing a total of 75 vessels, among them the first LNGpowered vessel and the largest ship, measuring 366 meters in length overall ( LOA), to enter Nigerian waters.
The port management expressed gratitude for the support received from the Nigerian Ports Authority ( NPA), which provided marine services and tugboats, and assured it will continue to serve as a transshipment hub in West Africa.
“To ensure efficient and seamless traffic management, we have created a 153- capacity pregate truck park. This will work in conjunction with our vehicle booking system at the Lekki Port gate to avoid congestion,” the port management stated. “We have also deployed the use of two Nuctech FS 6000 nonintrusive scanners by the Nigerian Customs Service ( NCS) to fast- track the process of cargo examination and evacuation, ensuring safety and security for goods passing through our gates," the port management stated.
The port management disclosed that it has been duly authorised by the Nigeria Customs Service ( NCS) to process and receive pharmaceutical products, thereby expanding its operational versatility and contributing to public health.
The management thanked both government and private sector partners for being an integral part of its success story.
It expressed its commitment to serving customers better and establishing Nigeria as a hub for global maritime transportation.
