NOTHING he did, along with his immediate family was ever liked by the new landlord. The landlord just hated him with passion and showed this always by his attitude. “Who can really please the world?” goes a philosophical saying. That aphorism was true in the life of Oriyomi because he did everything humanly possible to make the landlord happy but the reverse was the case as he further hated him passionately without cause and always mocked him with utmost derision. The good Lord is his strength.

People living around that area had this saying about the landlord that he didn’t believe in God or His judgement. Many of his tenants were rumoured to have died through his diabolic spiritual attacks. But Oriyomi kept trudging on despite living in the shadows of death, fear and trepidation.

In a particular year, two of his children, Iretioluwa and Fikunayomi suddenly fell sick at the same time with chronic fever and whooping cough. Oriyomi and his wife went from pillar to post looking for remedies to treat these brilliant kids. He took them from one hospital to another. Respite came at last when they started responding to treatment and became healthy after a couple of months.

The family became united again to continue the struggle for survival amid all odds.

Surprisingly, the landlord was down with stroke a couple of months later and things really went down for him healthwise. He had to seek financial assistance from Oriyomi to take care of himself. He begged

Oriyomi, in tears while seeking for his help to pay his hospital bills. It was learnt that the evil landlord later died in excruciating pains due to his ailing health as he could not cope with the physical and mental torture he suffered.

As Oriyomi and wife grew older life became very pleasant and bright for the couple. They never lacked anything good and were always happy and merrier in life.

Things picked up again for Oriyomi in the year 2012 as his business boomed and he bought three plots of land on Lagos Island with mouthwatering figure running to multimillions of naira. By this time, his three children had already graduated from the University of Lagos and were doing fine.

One of his children studied Medicine and had become a medical doctor in a reputable hospital while another studied Building Technology and got a good job in AR Engineering Firm, based in Ikoyi Lagos. The last child was a successful businesswoman by name, Oluwafeyikemi.

In the year 2017, Oriyomi and wife moved out of the house and became a landlord on Lagos Island. At the moment, they had three sophisticated houses of their own on Lagos island. At last, life had taken a beautiful and lovely turn in their lives.

Surely, it might take some time, like our people used to say, but the stammerer would later find his rhythm and pronounce, “Papa” properly, without faltering and stress. Which summarily means that, “There is a beautiful flickering light at the end of the dark tunnel.” The Oladeindes lived happily ever after.
