Author Urges Nigerians To Research Before Migrating

- By Ngozi Egenuka

AMERICA- BASED author and scientist, Mrs. Maggie Offoha, has said Nigerians should do due diligence and determine that migration is their best option before embarking on such journey.

She explained that most times, there is a lot lost when people relocate abroad like family, relationships and properties. She added that children are also caught between two cultures, unsure of their identity.

She said this at the launch of her three books: a book of poetry called, Poetry for Thought, a novel, Return to Where I Belong and a book of short stories, Dark Shadows on my Path, in Lagos.

She stressed on the need for Africa to build a reading culture to be aware of the happenings around them and history, adding that white men are writing African history, which shouldn’t be so.

“To migrate or not is a personal decision, but before going, ask questions and learn from those who have gone already. When we left the shores of Nigeria, we didn’t envision whether our children would be willing to come back home, or what happens to the family land and properties. We are at a cross road. The children might not know where they belong because they are caught between two cultures,” she added.

On the books, Offoha, said the three of them were written within six months, adding that the novel is a story about her family but speaks to a wide audience. “The book on short stories contains stories of police brutality, a Biafra child, experiences of immigrants and others,” she added.

Book reviewer, Bonny Amadi, said by reading the books, one would be better equipped to be leaders based on family and society positions. He added that the book of short stories is a 193- page book with 14 stories.

According to him, in the book of poetry, the author used her words to create vivid images and invoked strong motivating emotions in readers’ minds to trigger a developmental campaign or positive life transforming actions.
