- By Eniola Daniel

FIRE had gutted a threestorey building in the Apongbon area of Lagos State and consumed property worth millions of Naira. The incident happened two weeks after fire consumed four buildings in Dosunmu Street, Idumota, Lagos.

The Guardian gathered that the fire began at about 1:

00p. m. at 48, Breadfruit Street, Apongbon, Lagos.

It was further learnt that the fire started from the second floor of the three- story building, primarily housing various hair wigs, but officials of Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service ( LSFRS) prevented it from spreading to other buildings.

Director, LSFRS, Margaret Adeseye, said the agency received a distress call at about 12: 24. p. m and immediately initiated a comprehensive operation to contain the outbreak. “The call prompted a swift and coordinated response from multiple fire crews, including those stationed at Ebute Elefun, Sari Iganmu, Dolphin, and Alausa of the agency, as well as the Federal Fire Service. “Despite challenges posed by the difficult terrain and heightened concerns among traders, the fire was successfully extinguished, preventing its spread to adjacent properties and salvaging what remains of the affected structure.

“There have been no reported casualties, and the cause of the fire is attributed to careless handling of a generator,” she said.

Also Coordinator , National Emergency Management Agency ( NEMA), Lagos Territorial Office, Ibrahim Farinloye, said: “We got the call and we deployed men to the area. We are talking to the Iya Oloja on the management of fire outbreaks in the area and how to ensure that the issue of fire outbreaks is minimised. Read the remaining story on www. guardian. ng
