Olubadan- designate, Olakulehin, not fit to rule now, says Otun Balogun

-

THE Otun Balogun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Abimbola Ajibola, yesterday, said that the Olubadan- designate, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, is still ill and not physically fit to rule at the moment.

He said that the Olubadandesignate should be given time to be healthy before he is pronounced.

This new twist is coming a few hours after a peace meeting, initiated by Ibadan elders, ended peacefully, with Rashidi Ladoja promising to withdraw a case against the elevation of his fellow high chiefs to obaship status from the court.

Oba Ajibola, who addressed newsmen at his Sanyo private residence in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, said: "What is the need for hurry hurry? Someone ( Olakulehin) we have not seen. He has not spoken with us. He has not spoken with Ibadan people.

"I am his second- in- command. I am his lieutenant. He has not called me to say ' My Otun, I am back. So, tell your people. And when are you seeing me?' They are just forcing him because of their selfish interest."

The Otun Balogun Olubadan, who spoke about the meeting held at the private residence of Bode Amoo at Agodi Government Reserved Area ( GRA) in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on Monday, said: "They said we called a meeting and we have endorsed him ( Olakulehin). I am not part of that. I have told them my mind that I won't be part of that illegality. We know Baba Olakulehin is the next Olubadan, but let us allow him to get well.

"Has anybody seen him since last Friday? Those who went there after Friday were unable to see him. They are forcing this man. We should allow him to get well.

"Before Olubadan can be elected, certain conditions must be fulfilled. It's not just about being the most senior. You must be medically fit. You must not be blind and you must be able to recognise people and move around. Even if the kingmakers recommend you, the governor can reject it based on any of these conditions.” Read the remaining part of this
