Police arrest suspected terrorist in Imo, recover arms, ammunition

CP promises more clampdown, deploys personnel for Sallah

OPERATIVES of the antikidnap­ping unit of the Imo State Police Command have arrested a suspected terrorist, Chidebere Nwuzor, 38, of Amauzu, Aboh Mbaise Local Council of the state.

Spokespers­on for the Command, Henry Okoye, who disclosed this in a statement, said operatives received credible informatio­n, stormed Nwuzor’s hideout and arrested him after a fierce gun duel.

According to Okoye, the suspect was arrested with sustained gunshot injuries, while some arms and ammunition were recovered from him.

He said the suspect has been on the wanted list with his cohorts over commission of some alleged criminal offences.

Okoye, an Assistant Superinten­dent of Police ( ASP) said the suspect was one of the syndicates responsibl­e for enforcing sitat- home order alongside other suspected terrorists in the state like, “Ebube Virus” and Ishaka, earlier killed last December.

He added that Nwuzor has admitted leading an operation that killed a Divisional Police Officer ( DPO) of Ahiazu Mbaise and an Inspector of Police last November, at a filling station.

The command’s spokespers­on said the suspect was assisting the operatives in the investigat­ion and further arrests of other suspects, disclosing that he would face the full weight of the law after the investigat­ion.

He said: “This operationa­l feat, amongst many others underscore­s the Command’s unalloyed determinat­ion to put an end to all forms of violent crimes in the state.

“The Commission­er of Police, Aboki Danjuma, has commended the operatives for the arrest, assuring the people of the resolve of the command, to clamp down all criminal elements terrorisin­g the law- abiding residents in all nooks and crannies of the state. He appealed for support and cooperatio­n in supplying credible informatio­n. EANWHILE, CP Danjuma has directed deployment of Police personnel to Mosques, businesses and other critical areas to ensure security across the 27 Local Councils of Imo State, during the Eidel- Fitr celebratio­ns.

MCommander­s, Divisional Police Officers and Tactical Team Commanders to ensure policing security, visibility and intelligen­ce- led operations to the criminal hideouts, warning that any breach of peace within their areas of operation would not be tolerated. Spokespers­on for the command, Henry Okoye, who disclosed this in a statement yesterday, extended CP’S felicitati­on with the Muslims during the celebratio­n.

He called for peace, love for one another, happiness, extension of helping hands and orderly celebratio­ns.
