Lagos records decline in road crashes, fatality, says FRSC

THE Federal Road Safety Corps ( FRSC), Lagos State Sector Command, said the command has recorded a notable decline in road crashes, fatalities, and severity, with incidents involving tanker trucks witnessing a significan­t reduction.

Sector Commander, Babatunde Farinloye, stated this in Lagos during the unveiling of its newlybuilt Sector Command Office Complex Extension donated by Axxela

Limited.

The commission­ing ceremony, attended by disti nguished guests and stakeholde­rs, served as a platform to highlight remarkable road safety milestones achieved by the command.

Farinloye revealed that during his tenure, a vailable statistics indicated that crash, fatality and severity declined by 29.86 per cent, 24.86 per cent and 32.89 per cent respective­ly. Incidents involving tanker trucks dropped by 36.36 per cent while fatalities dropped by 62.43 per cent, he stated.

These figures, he emphasized, were a testament to the effectiven­ess of the Corps’ operations and strategic interventi­ons. He however stated that speeding, aggressive and distracted driving as well as driving under the influence ( DUI) remains criti - cal issues that must col - lectively be addressed going forward.

He expressed profound appreciati­on to Axxela Limited, led by Bolaji Osunsanya, for their visionary leadership and commitment to societal well- being.

Farinloye emphasized the significan­ce of the office complex, noting its pivotal role in facilitati­ng the Corps’ mandate of creating safer roads for Lagosians and Nigerians alike.

In his remarks, Chief Executive Officer, Axxela, Bolaji Osunsanya, said safety is not just a concept but a fundamenta­l role it plays in human lives. Osunsanya described the donation of the complex as a modest contributi­on to the FRSC.

He said the donation is a testament to when the public and private sectors collaborat­e for a shared vision.

“We are optimistic that this donation will stand as a constant reminder of the company’s commitment to road safety,” he said.

Representa­tive of the

Corp Marshal, Dauda Biu, Assistant Corp Marshal Hyginus Omeje seized the opportunit­y to call for a paradigm shift in the behaviour of FRSC officers towards road users emphasizin­g the need for mutual respect and service orientatio­n.

“If we improve our attitude towards road users, we stand to receive more CRS from the private sector as the Federal Government is already overstretc­hed” he explained.
