Kwara United shun Sallah, prepare for Gombe United match

- From Odun Edward, Ilorin

DESPERATE to avoid relegation from the Nigeria Premier Football League ( NPFL) this season, Kwara United Football Club did not join other Muslims in the Eid Fitri celebrations. Rather, they continued with their intensive training sessions ahead of their next game against Gombe United in Gombe.

On Wednesday, the teams’ training session, supervised by the club’s Technical Adviser, Kabir Dogo and coach Tunde Sanni, started at 1.00p. m. and ended at about 4.00p. m. intheinclement weather in Ilorin.

The Ilorin- based team is marooned in the 18th position in the 20- team league, which relegates the last three teams every season.

They drew their last game at home 1- 1 with ‘ Benin Arsenal,’ Bendel Insurance, the result that has further plunged them into the murky water of relegations.

On Tuesday, the team’s management convened a stakeholder meeting on the way out of relegation.

The General Manager of the team, Kunbititiloye, came out of the meeting optimistic that the club would escape relegation this season. He noted: “We are United and we will surely also play in this league next football season.” Speaking with The Guardian on the development, Coach Sanni canvassed prayers for the team and promised that lapses, especially the inability of the strikers to take their chances in front of goals have been corrected.

“We will, by God’s grace, escape from the relegation zone. We shall come out stronger next season to continue to put smiles on the faces of our teeming fans. But we urge them to continue to support us in our battles against relegation,” he said.
