Barcelona bank on Xavi beyond this season

-

AFTER years of trials and tribulations in European away games, Barcelona put their past woes behind them to defeat PSG at the Parc des Princes.

Envisioning a run in the Champions League appeared highly improbable earlier this year when Barcelona were conceding goals left, right, and centre. But a stark difference can be observed between the team that conceded five goals to Villarreal at home and the one that kept Kylian Mbappe quiet all night.

The club’s higher- ups acknowledge that the team has turned over a new leaf, and Xavi Hernandez is steering the club toward promising pastures.

Despite the manager constantly iterating in the public sphere that he will stick true to his decision to part ways in the summer, Barcelona are optimistic about his continuity.

Indeed, as per SPORT, Barça are fully committed to backing Xavi in his endeavours, and there is a sense of optimism as the coach is now content and proud of the team, given the emergence of the youngsters and the incredible potential on offer.

While Barcelona have been on the lookout for suitable successors for Xavi, Joan Laporta& co. are intent on ensuring Xavi’s continuity in Catalonia.

Club members are internally urging him to reverse his decision, while the president feels that Xavi cannot quit the team now and wants to speak with the coach in- depth to persuade him and provide him with the resources he needs. Moreover, formal attempts will be made by Laporta after the Clasico, which will be played on April 21 at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The report further argues that Xavi is aware of the support he is being offered behind closed doors and that the decision lies with him.

While his stance in public has not changed, he will maintain his sentiment as long as the club’s objectives are not achieved.
