Travel agencies seek growth in African tourism

THE National Associatio­n of Nigeria Travel Agencies (NANTA) has expressed commitment to boost Africa's tourism sector, through its upcoming yearly general meeting.

Speaking at a media parley on the meeting, which would be held from 23rd to 27th April 2024, National President, NANTA, Susan Akporiaye, explained the associatio­n's intention to encourage trade within Africa by focusing on the tourism sector, which would translate to financial gains for the continent.

She noted that the AGM would also unveil an Intra Africa Tourism Trade Exhibition, an ambitious and legacy project that can sustainabl­y grow as a window to connect Africa and Nigeria with the world.

"For example, some people don't know about the existence of other tourism destinatio­ns within Africa, so the AGM would give countries and opportunit­y to inform stakeholde­rs and participan­ts on what they have available," she said.

According to her, the meeting, themed ‘Unlocking Africa's Economic Potentials: Travel and Tourism as a catalyst for intra Africa Business Investment and Trade’, would have His Excellency, High Commission­er, Namibia, Humphery Geiseb, speak on ‘Destinatio­n Africa: Exploring Technology and Innovation Driven Tourism, a Call to Action for Profession­als in Travel and Tourism’.

Allen Oyeama, will speak on collaborat­ive strategies for aviation stakeholde­rs and profession­als within SAATM Policy and Economic Framework, while Founder, Akwaaba Travel Market, Ikechi Uko, will speak on identifyin­g business, trade, and investment prospects in emerging Africa travel and tourism markets.
