Naira Abuse: Bobrisky Sentenced To Six Months Imprisonme­nt Without Option Of Fine

• Confirms To Court He Is A Man

JUSTICE Abimbola Awogboro of a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, yesterday, sentenced convicted social media influencer, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky to six months in custody over mutilation of the naira.

Okuneye ( Bobrisky) was prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission ( EFCC). He was arraigned and convicted on April 5, following his guilty plea to the four- count charge brought against him by the anti- graft commission.

Upon his plea at that last proceeding, the court had reserved sentence to April 9 and ordered that Bobrisky be remanded in custody of the EFCC pending sentence.

The judge, while sentencing the convict, said the judgment would be a deterrent to others that are found of abusing and mutilating the Naira, the Nigeria currency.

Prior to the sentence, the judge asked of his sex, and he quickly replied that he is a man.

The judge ordered that the jail- term to commence from March 24, 2024, when he was arrest.

He was convicted tampering with naira while dancing during a social event at Event Hall, Oniru, Victory Island in 2022, by spraying same.

His offence contrary to the provision section 21( 1) of the Central Bank Act, 2007.

Part of his charge read: “That you, Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, on March 24,2024, at Imax Circle Mall, Jakande, Lekki, within the jurisdicti­on of this court, while dancing during a social event tampered with| the total sum of N400,000.00 notes issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying same and you, thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable ‘ under section 21( 1) of the Central Bank Act, 2007.

“That you, Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, between July and August, 2023 at Aja Junction, lkorodu, within the jurisdicti­on of this court, while dancing during a social event tampered with the sum N50, 000.00 issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying same and you thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 21( 1) of the Central Bank Act, 2007.

“That you, Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, sometimes in December, 2023 at White Steve Event Hall, Ikeja, within the jurisdicti­on of this Court, while dancing during a social event tampered with the sum N20,000.00 issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying same and you thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 21( 1) of the Central Bank Act, 2007.”
