The Wind Of Power
Numbers 11: 31- 32: “And there went forth a wind from the Lord, and brought quails from the sea, and let them fall by the camp, as it were a day's journey on this side, and as it were a day's journey on the other side, round about the camp, and as it were two cubits high upon the face of the earth. 32: And the people stood up all that day, and all that night, and all the next day, and they gathered the quails: he that gathered least gathered ten homers: and they spread them all abroad for themselves round about the camp.”
WIND is a natural phenomenon, a divine creation for the benefit of man. Wind has a two- side — good or bad — effect, depending on its purpose and the relationship between the beneficiary and the creator, God Almighty. Currently, wind is technologically harnessed for the generation of electricity and to run some industrial machines.
Wind could as well be a harbinger of destruction. During rainy and harmattan seasons wind can blow off the building’s roof, pull down trees, injure human beingsand even lift and hit humansagainsthard objects. In all circumstances, man has no control over wind; only God has power over it. In some cases, God uses wind as a messenger to bringgood tidings to His people. When it comes in that manner, it is seen as wind of power as witnessed in Acts 2: 1- 4 thus:“And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2: And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3: And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4: And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” In another situation, wind could be a symbol of the Holy Ghost( the third person in the ‘ Trinity’). This rushing sound likened to mighty wind is the spiritual power, the comforter, our Lord Jesus Christ promised to His disciples who will teach them all things. It came as a wind. Wind, therefore, blows power to the people. It was this wind that brought about the birth of the church. The Day of Pentecost, the sixth dispensation marking the establishment of the Church, a new age announced by our Lord Jesus Christ in Matthew 12: 47; 13: 52 came to fulfillment. The Church clearly prophesied His coming. Jesus Christ through the shedding His bloodon the Cross of Calvarypurchased the Holy Spiritand He has since constituted as the Church after the death, resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ at Pentecostin accordance with His promise. Individual believers were for the first time baptised with the Holy Spirit into a unified spiritual organism, likened to a body Christ is the head. As a result of the emphasis on the Holy Spirit, this age has been called the dispensation of the spirit.
The baptism of fire brought by the wind of power gave the disciples the boldness and power of utterance. The believers for the first time after the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ went out in one accord to preach the gospel to the people.
According to the Bible, about three thousand souls were won that day into God’s kingdom. The wind of power emboldened them to preach the gospel without fear or favour.
In the lead scripture above, God caused the wind
of power to bring out quails from the sea for the Israelites to eat as food. Quail is among theedible specie of birds. These birds served as food for the Israelites in time of need and in the course of their journey to the Promised Land. It was the work of the wind of power that brought them birds for the people. In the time of need, the wind of power will bring solutions to the problems. In Matthew 8: 23- 27, the Bible says:“And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him. 24: And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep. 25: And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish. 26: And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm. 27: But the men marvelled, saying, what manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him.” As stated earlier, wind can be destructive as witnessed in this account of the journey of the disciples. The wind would have led to shipwreck leading to the destruction of the ship and loss of lives if our Lord Jesus Christ had not been on board to control it. It is only God that has control over the wind, hence our Lord Jesus Christ instantly rebuked the wind and there was great calm.
Again, Moses empowered by God used the wind to destroy the Egyptians and to force Pharaoh to release the Israelites from bondage in Egypt. Exodus 10: 13- 15says:“And Moses stretched forth his rod over the land of Egypt, and the Lord brought an east wind upon the land all that day, and all that night; and when it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts. 14: And the locusts went up over all the land of Egypt, and rested in all the coasts of Egypt: very grievous were they; before them there were no such locusts as they, neither after them shall be such. 15: For they covered the face of the whole earth, so that the land was darkened; and they did eat every herb of the land, and all the fruit of the trees which the hail had left: and there remained not any green thing in the trees, or in the herbs of the field, through all the land of Egypt.”
The wind is a natural phenomenon, a divine creation, which only God can use or control. We are in expectation of good things in our lives and our prayer should be that when wind of power blows, let it bring good things into our lives. The wind that will blow around us should be the one that brings good tidings, the one that will draw us nearer to God in our heavenly race. The wind of power that will blow to bring about open doors in our businesses, better family relationships with our wives and children and even the extended family members. We should allow the wind of power to open our eyes to see avenues of preaching the gospel and winning more souls for God’s kingdom. God will cause this wind of power to blow in our lives and the Church in Jesus’ name.
