Akpabio tasks S’south APC chairmen on growth of party in region

FOR the All Progressiv­es Congress ( APC) to be more visible in the SouthSouth region and beyond, the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has charged chairmen in the region to work harder.

Akpabio gave the charge while receiving APC chairmen from the region, who paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja, yesterday.

The Senate President told the chairmen that he understand­s the challenges they face, assuring them that “in the days ahead, a meeting of critical stakeholde­rs, comprising state chairmen, National Assembly members, ministers and other appointees from the region, would be convened to work out modalities to support the party at various state chapters.

He noted that this is a strategy of engenderin­g unity and understand­ing among party members to foster social cohesion between the party and elected/ appointed officials in government.

He commended the APC Chairmen for their visit and used the opportunit­y to intimate them on the President Bola Tinubu administra­tion’s economic prosperity agenda for Nigeria.

Akpabio thanked Tinubu for the Lagos- Calabar coastal road, describing it as very visionary. He went further to inform the chairmen that he inspected the ongoin g constructi­on of the project with the Minister of Works in Lagos before returning to Abuja.

In his brief remarks on behalf of his colleagues, the APC Cross River State Chairman, Alphonsus Ogar , commended the harmonious working relationsh­ip between the Senate President and the only governor from the zone, Bassey Out, and their spouses.

Expressing solidarity with Akpabio, he recounted that the region last had the seat of Senate President in 1979, which is 45 years ago. The chairmen declared their total support for Akpabio’s commitment towards the infrastruc­tural developmen­t of the area, especially the ongoing Lagos– Calabar Coastal road and railway line by the Tinubu administra­tion.
