Army probe soldier's alleged killing of hotel manager in Abia

Ainvestiga­tion has been launched by the Army over the suspected killing of a hotel staff by a soldier in Umuahia, Abia State.

The hotel manager, identified as Mr Achimugu James Etubi from Kogi State was the head of the food and beverage department of the hotel located on Factory Road, Umuahia.

Some personnel of the Nigerian Army had allegedly brutally killed him after a Nigerian Air Force cadet reportedly drowned in the hotel swimming pool.

He was reportedly tortured to death by the soldiers at the military barracks.

Reacting to the allegation, spokespers­on for the Army, Major- General Onyema Nwachukwu, noted that the Nigerian Army ( NA) was deeply concerned by the alleged unprofessi­onal conduct of some of the personnel in the tragic death of the hotel manager in Umuahia, Abia State, as reported in some online media.

“In response to this unfortunat­e incident, the Chief of Army Staff has promptly ordered a comprehens­ive investigat­ion to ascertain the facts and bring to book anyone found culpable.

“The NA extend their heartfelt condolence­s to the families of the deceased Manager, Mr Achimugu James Etubi and the Nigerian Air Force Officer Cadet, Emmanuel Chidiebere Onyemerech­e and assure the public that every effort will be made to ensure that justice is served.

“The Army are committed to upholding the highest standards of profession­alism and discipline, and therefore any personnel found culpable of wrongdoing will face appropriat­e legal sanctions.

“Furthermor­e, the NA reaffirm unwavering dedication to safeguardi­ng the security of all citizens.

We remain steadfast in our mission to promote lasting peace and security throughout Nigeria.

"The Nigerian Army are resolute in pursuit of truth and justice, and we will keep the public informed at the conclusion of the investigat­ion," Nwachukwu declared.
