Police arrest suspected kidnapper, recover snatched vehicle in Imo

OPERATIVES from the antikidnap­ping unit of the Imo State Police Command have arrested a suspected kidnapper, Aralu Chukwudi Charis, 40, from Otolo, in Nnewi North Local Council of Anambra State.

Confirming the developmen­t in a statement yesterday, spokespers­on for the command, Henry Okoye, said the operation was led by the leader of the antikidnap­ping unit, Oladimeji Odeyeyiwa.

According to him, the operatives acted on credible intelligen­ce and a well coordinate­d operation at a hideout in Mgbidi, Oru East Local Council of Imo State. Okoye disclosed that an ashcoloure­d Toyota Camry, 2005 model, with reg no; MUS 509 DS Lagos, was recovered from the suspect.

He said that the suspect allegedly mastermind­ed several kidnap incidents around the area.

He said: “In the course of investigat­ion, the suspect confessed that he is the gang leader of a deadly criminal syndicate terrorisin­g the people of Imo State and provided crucial informatio­n that will assist the determined operatives in the arrest of his syndicate at large.

“The suspect will be arraigned in court after the completion of a comprehens­ive investigat­ion.”

Meanwhile, the Commission­er of Police in the state, Aboki Danjuma, has re- emphasised the Command’s commitment towards clamping down on unrepentan­t criminal elements causing insecurity in the state, warning the youths to eschew crime or face the music.

The CP advised residents, particular­ly the youths to eschew crime, warning that perpetrato­rs will always be exposed and in most cases, end up in tragedy. He also urged the owner of the recovered vehicle to report to the command with proof of ownership for collection.
