CIBN highlights importance of liquidity at yearly lecture

THE Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria ( CIBN) 2024 yearly lecture, slated to take place on April 23, at the Civic Center, Victoria Island, Lagos, has its theme as "Improving Availabili­ty of Credit in the Nigerian Real Economy: The Critical Importance of Liquidity."

With a focus on addressing the pressing need to enhance credit accessibil­ity within Nigeria's real economy, the 2024 yearly lecture seeks to shed light on the pivotal role that liquidity plays in shaping the country's financial landscape.

Against the backdrop of evolving economic dynamics, the imperative for a robust financial infrastruc­ture that facilitate­s credit provision and fosters economic growth cannot be overstated.

According to the body, the President/ Chairman of Council, CIBN, Dr. Ken Opara, will be the Chief Host of the lecture, stressing that the programme underscore­s the CIBN'S commitment to advancing thought leadership and driving impactful change within the banking sector.

Distinguis­hed as the Guest Speaker at this year's lecture is Prof. Graham Penn, a revered authority in the field of Internatio­nal Finance Law, from the esteemed University College London ( UCL). Prof. Penn's wealth of expertise and scholarly insights promise to enrich discussion­s and offer invaluable perspectiv­es on navigating the complexiti­es of liquidity management and credit facilitati­on within Nigeria's economic context.

In addition to Prof. Penn's keynote address, the 2024 lecture will feature esteemed dignitarie­s including the Former Chairman of Gtbank Plc, Mrs. Osaretin Demuren, FCIB, whose extensive experience and insights into banking and finance will provide invaluable perspectiv­es on the challenges and opportunit­ies surroundin­g credit availabili­ty in the Nigerian real economy. She will be chairing the occasion.
