Plateau Killings: Operation Safe Haven Engages Bokkos, Mangu Stakeholde­rs In Jos

THE Special T ask Force, Operation Safe Ha ven ( OPSH), has met with key stakeholde­rs from Bokkos and Mangu local councils of Plateau State following the resurgence of criminal attacks in the areas.

At a meeting held at the Headquarte­rs 3 Division Nigerian Army ( NA), Jos, yesterday, the General Officer Commanding 3 Division Nigerian Army ( NA) and Commander OPSH, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, disclosed that the meeting was aimed at addressing the latest security concerns in some parts of the state.

The commander expressed displeasur­e over the reoccurrin­g breach of security, which has resulted in the death of innocent civilians.

The commander reiterated that the causes of conflicts on the Plateau must be adequately addressed to prevent further breakd own of law and order.

He urged the stakeholde­rs to support the resettleme­nt efforts of the government and security agencies, thereby allowing displaced persons to return back to their ancestral homes.

Abubakar disclosed that some perpetrato­rs of the recent attacks ha ve been arrested and weapons and motorcycle­s recovered, stressing that troops would continue to conduct operations to bring the remaining perpetrato­rs to justice.

Speaking at the meeting, the state Governor , Caleb Manasseh Muftwang, represente­d by the Commission­er for Local Government and Chieftainc­y Affairs, Ephraim Usman, said the people no longer trust each other, adding that the government was working to rebuild trust among them.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to policing the state and making it safe for innocent residents.

Many stakeholde­rs, who spoke during the meeting, emphasised the need for genuine dialogue and forgivenes­s between warring parties, so as to forge ahead and allow the state attain economic prosperity.

They resolved that the people must help the government to implement policies that would bring permanent peace to troubled areas in the state.
