Raquel’s ‘ Madam Mosquito’ To Educate School Children On Malaria Prevention

- By Ijeoma Thomas- Odia

AWARD- WINNING social entrepreneur and author, Raquel Kasham Daniel, has launched her latest book, ‘ Madam Mosquito’, in commemoration of this year’s World Malaria Day.

As the world marks the day under the theme, ‘ Accelerate the fight against malaria for a more equitable world’, Daniel’s book seeks to empower children and communities with knowledge and action against malaria.

Set in a school, ‘ Madam Mosquito’ tells the story of a few children who contracted malaria and the swift response by the school to educate students on malaria prevention.

Daniel, who is also the CEO and CoFounder of Bambini Africa, noted that through engaging storytelling, the book educates children on the factors causing malaria and ways they can protect themselves and their families.

According to statistics, malaria remains a significant health challenge in Nigeria, with thousands of children missing school each year due to illnesses such as flu and malaria. Daniel, through her NGO, Beyond the Classroom Foundation, intends to address this issue by taking ‘ Madam Mosquito’ to different schools and holding book reading sessions aimed at educating children in low- income and underserved communities about malaria prevention.

Speaking about the launch and commitment to educating children through books, she said: “Malaria is a significant health challenge in our communities, but through education and action, we can make a difference. ‘ Madam Mosquito’ is my tool to empower children and communities to fight against this disease.”
