Dayo Benjamin-Laniyi is popularly referred to as ‘A VOICE’ because when she speaks, people are transfixed by the power of her oration. With almost 18 years of experience, Dayo has built up a strong reputation as a professional and excellent Event Compere/MC. She recently turned 50 and she spent a day with Funke Babs-Kufeji telling her about her journey thus far... Last week, I got a lot of responses on the article I wrote about Envy. I want to use this podium to thank everyone for their various comments. It simply means my views are getting across and hitting the right chord. This pleases me. I recall once sending Tonye Cole (Watcher of Times) a text, complimenting him for his amazing ability to totally captivate the mind of the reader no matter what topic he writes about moreso within a limited space. Some people are gifted like that but even more amazing are those with the gift of the garb! Those who have the ability to hold an audience spellbound whether they are 50 or 5,000 people! They are so comfortable with the microphone that if you close your eyes for a second, you’ll think they were speaking from the comfort of their bedroom! I have always admired the aura of confidence such people exude. Even up till now, I still cannot guarantee a great repertoire if I’m on stage addressing a huge crowd! So when one sees people who compere events so seamlessly and superbly, you cannot but doff your heart especially if they are so eloquent and colourful with their choice of words. Our cover subject, Dayo Benjamin-Laniyi is one of such people. A Compere of events, Dayo has graced many stages and podiums. Her fluidity and romance of the English language is simply astonishing. Talk about tailor made for the job she does. As a Compere/MC, you can either make or break an event. It is by no means an easy feat to maintain decorum and keep things afloat even with the unforseen challenges that usually occur in such scenarios. Truth is, whatever you choose to do in life, be your best at what you do. The sky is big enough for everybody but it’s that extra touch that makes you stand out from the others!
