DeAr Watcher OF Times... WHO EXACTLY Are We?

WHO exACTLY Are We?

-

Ishould be in second heaven right now, the island breeze couldn’t be cooler, the aquamarine waters of the Atlantic Ocean beckoning alluringly to visitors and natives alike, the white beaches and tropical sun a magnificent reminder of just how creative God can be and why people from all nations flock to the Caribbean Islands every year in search of Paradise on earth. Looking all around, I am assailed by how far man can go in creating an illusion of wealth and what is possible when one isn’t bound by the constraints of poverty. The infusion of natures natural beauty, the lush evergreen of tropical plants and the cacophony of sounds from all of God’s Creation simply adds to the idyllic setting.

Yet my heart is heavy and a deep sadness fills my soul, for home, as the saying goes, is where the heart is and all isn’t well where I come from. Peace is elusive, not because don’t know it’s benefits but because we value crisis and chaos more. Our rivers and beaches are super polluted, not because we don’t understand cleanliness but because as individuals we are more interested in self aggrandizement than the common good. We break into oil pipelines for our own personal gains and too lazy to dispose of industrial and domestic waste properly, we dump them into our waters. We condone mediocrity at all levels, not because we can’t see the damage it causes, but because we don’t care enough to fight for meritocracy as we fear it may just leave us out of reckoning.

The God of All Creation, understood perfectly the composition He put together of nature all through the world and He distributed man, His crowning glory in creation, in such a way to master their specific environment, to care and nurture it and to cause it to provide all they need to excel therein. By understanding who they are in the eyes of their Creator and why they are located where they are, man is able to cause the land to give off its best while the people eat the fruit of the land continuously. As I reminisce on a people who have found themselves in alignment with God and His gift of nature to them, I discover a flicker of hope in my heart that maybe, just maybe, my people and I may also discover ourselves and turn our land into a haven on earth for our citizens and those who would visit us to marvel at what a people can achieve when they put their minds together and find strength in our amazing diversity. Would you join hands to save our nation? May God help us find ourselves.
