WHERE DID MY ANGELS GO?

- May the Lord reveal our missteps to us today.

The cocktail was in full swing and the conversation getting deeper when my mind suddenly switched to the weightlessness in my rear pocket. Reaching behind for my wallet, my heart skipped a bit at the confirmation that it was gone. Multiple mental calculations followed, tracing back to where I possibly could have left it or was my pocket picked, I wondered. The setting of the location made the latter most unlikely so excusing myself from the group, I began a retrace of my most recent activities, in the hope of finding it. A trip to the hotel reception, a phone call to the police, returning to the church where I last recall seeing it and back to my house where I was lodging all yielded nothing.

Trying hard not to worry deeply, I fell asleep processing what credit cards and other valuables were lost in the event I needed to begin calling to cancel cards and replace photo ID’s. As I lay on my face in prayer the next day, I recalled from a sermon that when all else fails try worship so the hour was spent in praise and worship whereupon my misstep was revealed. A sin of omission had been committed when in a situation where the Holy Spirit was to be glorified, I’d failed to do so but instead unwittingly told my story to a couple, sent to me in dire need of spiritual guidance, in such a manner the glory ended upon my person and they had departed empty handed.

The Almighty, it is acknowledged, shares His glory with no man and when we decide to take that glory, He tends to step aside and allow us discover just how far on our own glory we can prevail. I was reminded then that He gives His angels charge over us, to bear us up in their hands so we do not dash our feet on any stone. It was clear His angels, who can’t touch sin, had stepped aside and in losing my wallet had dashed my feet so not wanting to proceed further without His cover, I repented, sought forgiveness and promised to right the wrong. As I came downstairs to depart for the day, waiting for me on the table was my wallet, fully intact, not a penny missing, having been found and returned even as I worshiped that morning. Are your angels hindered from bearing you up this day?
