What are yoU Wearing?
Iam not referring to the designer of your clothes; the question is does what you wear matter? Some may say no to this question because it doesn’t determine their self-worth while some may say “yes, it matters” in the sense that the way you look says a lot about how you carry yourself. The point is both answers are equally right; what you wear is not a measurement of your internal value. The Importance of what you wear applies to everyone irrespective of your financial budget or who you are. The way you look is a reflection of whom you are, your style your art. However that doesn’t mean you should lose your self-worth all in the name of fashion. Everyone is unique in their own way, some people try to blend in with the majority, accepting who you are and keeping it true to yourself is what makes you stand out. If you are ready to stand out from the crowd, then you first need to embrace what makes you unique. We all have our days and no we are not always picture perfect or have the opportunity to filter that picture before posting on social media but there are some things you must not be caught wearing. I cringe sometimes when I see some things people are wearing in the name of fashion. Here are a few of the fashion no no’s you need to ask yourself before stepping out of the door. On the bright side, you may even enjoy a few laughs or feel encouraged to take a trip down the memory lane over particular fashion mishaps of your own, or some things you successfully avoided. Whatever category you fall in, enjoy the read.
Some styles and display on the runway are really meant for drama and to show the effect on the run way. Runway clothes are pieces of art that showcase the designer’s aesthetic and level of creativity BuT they are not necessarily meant to be wearable or practical. With that being said, just because you saw a fashion model on the runway wearing chiffon dress with absolutely nothing but their birthday suit doesn’t give you the audacity to step out that way? It is not stylish in the real world it’s absolutely tacky. Is wearing socks with sandals a new trend now? Please don’t be caught wearing socks with sandals; it is an absolute no no too! Please leave the socks for your boots or tennis shoes, there is nothing cute about wearing socks with sandals no matter how much they cost and who is wearing it. One of my greatest pet peeves is when people show too much; showing too much does not make you look sexier neither does it attract positive attention. When you think of the wardrobe of someone in royalty and people in dignitaries, you think of class, excellence, and glam, the way they look is one of the first things you notice when they walk into a room. Home is your place to be comfortable and let loose, however when you are out in public put a little bit of pride in your appearance; maybe next time people won’t look at you like you are weird. Are you comfortable in those shoes? It is not practical to spend so much on a pair of shoes and not be able to walk in them. Whether you are a man or a woman, the shoes you wear is a way of accessorizing your wardrobe. While they are a good indicator of your sense of style and deliver an important fashion statement, ditch shoes that bring a measure of discomfort and pain because its not worth it. A gentleman wearing an extra skinny and tight pants are a painful sight. Tight fabric reinforced with spandex and clinging to a man’s legs is not an attractive. There are better options for men’s pants that will suit your body type. Pants come in various fits such as tapered, slim, and straight, boot cut, narrow bottom, low waist, anti-fit, flared and skinny fit; find what fits your body type. It’s important to know your body type and wear what suits your body type. I am in no way saying you should dress up a specific way because if we all dressed up the same way, that would be absolutely boring. The point is while trying to stand out amongst a crowd in the way you look; please do so with class, tastefully and with dignity. Who ever said you can’t look just as fantastic without looking trashy or seem like you are trying too hard to be what you aren’t. Wearing the most expensive designer clothes does not make you more stylish than the next man wearing a “no name” brand. It’s not the clothes that make the man but how the person wearing it owns it and uses it to reflect his/her style. The way you look says so many things without you uttering a word so the next time you think what you are wearing doesn’t matter, think again because your clothes are saying something whether you like it or not.
