HOW TO REMOVE FOUNDATION STAINS FROM YOUR SHIRT

- BYMOJISOLAALLEN

If you wear makeup, foundation stains are a fact of life. Putting on a top in a hurry after you’ve already made up your face, thoughtlessly brushing your arm against your cheek, or touching your shirt when your fingers still have a bit of foundation on them are all innocent acts that can leave you with a dreaded stain. The next time you find yourself with a little face paint marring your pristine white top, rest assured that there’s a viable solution. Because we refuse to abandon our favorite wardrobe staples like the classic white T-shirt or the crisp light-coloured button-down, we did a little investigating to determine how to get foundation out of clothes—without leaving a trace. Better yet, the simple shirt-cleaning, stain-clearing hack requires a household product you already have on hand: shaving cream! 1. Check the care label on your shirt. If it says “dry clean only,” it’s advised to skip this hack and take your shirt directly to your dry cleaner, who will be your best bet for removing the stain. If the label allows for machine- or hand-washing, get your shaving cream ready. 2. Apply the shaving cream. Take a small amount of shaving cream and apply directly onto the stain as you would a stain remover. Oil-based foundations can be treated with dish detergent, which helps counter the oil. 3. Wash as usual. After letting sit several minutes, either machine-wash the shirt with other whites or hand-wash the shirt alone—whichever the label advises. If you’re using a washing machine, check to be sure the stain came out before putting the shirt into the dyer (which would set the stain). If you’re unsure or there are still traces of the stain, hang-dry to be safe.
