and beauty It deeply is how bizarre standards. entrenched it has how also colourism We influenced in get society told is that hyperpigmentation our melanated lips means are we’re ugly, dirty and having a magnificent African nose is unflattering. So, we find ourselves covering these things up, but for what and for who? It is one thing to wear make-up that may be altering for your own confidence but a completely different thing to wear it to conform to unrealistic Eurocentric beauty standards. If you are covering up your lovely beauty features not for yourself but to conform to these standards; we hate to break it to you, but you’re going to make yourself depressed because you will never look like that. According to celebrity makeup artist Jackie Aina, rather than trying to conform to these standards, why not do a couple of things that would accentuate your natural beauty. Here are a few tips to follow:

1. First of all, invest in a good skin care routine;

find out your skin type, avoid products with PEGs, aluminium, parabens or sodium lauryl sulfate, cleanse, exfoliate, tone, moisture and use some sunblock to protect your perfect black skin. Having good skin is the first step to feeling confident in it.

2. Secondly, when doing make up, don’t colour correct your hyperpigmentation,

it is very handy to have different shades of foundation to match each part of your face. This may sound crazy or you may think you’d come out looking like a clown but your just matching the foundation shades to your skin, making it look flawless and seamless.

3. Also highlight where the sun naturally hits you

and bronze instead of contour to give yourself depth and warmth. This would give you a sun kissed effect. Avoid using a bronzer that is too dark to avoid the reconstruction of your face and use an orange blush to accentuate the undertone of your skin.

4. Use a brown shadow to intensify your eyes

and use a brown liner on your waterline. You could also add a bit of gold to give that wet dewy eye look.

5. Lastly for lips, the brown lip liner and gloss combo is a trend

that would never go out

of style, channel your inner 90s chick and line the outside of your lips (don’t over-line) and then add a gloss of your choice
