Ndigbo: Yuguda Has Made Bauchi Safe for Non-indigenes
The Bauchi State chapter of Ndigbo Confederation Assembly (NCA) yesterday expressed confidence and satisfaction with the efforts of the state Governor, Isa Yuguda, towards guaranteeing the security and safety of non-indigenes in the state particularly the Igbos ahead of the general election.
The group’s spokesman, Mr. Bernard Azuka, according to a statement made available to THISDAY by its media aide, Emeka Nwapa, told journalists in Abuja that his group had endorsed the series of meetings and consultations which the governor and top functionaries of his administration have undertaken with stakeholders and ethnic groups.
He said the meetings were towards ensuring the safety and security of lives and property of residents and non-indigenes in the state ahead of the forthcoming elections.
According to the statement, Azuka said: “We are fully aware of the huge investments by the state government in the security and safety of lives and property in the state. This is why we in the state have been enjoying tremendous peace and tranquility. The place is stable for us to live and do business.
“We are delighted with series of stakeholders’ meetings and consultations which Yuguda and top officials of his government have undertaken towards ensuring that the state continues to be safe, stable and secure as the general election approach.
“This is why we feel very safe to stay and vote wherever our people reside across the 21 local government areas of the state.”
Azuka stated that the state under Yuguda is home to all ethnic groups irrespective of race, region, religion or political affiliation demonstrated in the governor’s laudable prosettler policies such as nondiscriminatory land allocation schemes and equitable access to free education, health, youth and women empowerment programmes which have given non-indigenes a stake in the growth and development of the state.
He posited that the nondiscriminatory policies of the state government had ultimately contributed to the rise in the state’s population currently estimated at about seven million, adding that the governor gladdened their hearts some years ago when he started to employ non-indigenes into the state’s civil service including offering some of them political appointments in his government, “for example, his Chief Press Secretary, Chief Ishola Michael Adeyemi, hails from Oyo State.”
The spokesperson of the group further noted that the governor has brought fresh meaning and essence to the nation’s democratic profile by his excellent stewardship in the state whereby non-indigenes have unhindered and unconditional access to the free education policy and quality health care in the state’s modernised hospitals and primary health centres.
