The Chief Executive Officer of SchoolKits, Mrs. Temilola Adepetun, has called on the government to pay adequate attention to the education sector by establishing more teacher training colleges that will make the teaching profession enviable and of good quality.

Adepetun, who made this known recently during the inauguration of her organisation’s maiden mega school shop and online store in Lagos, said there should be good personnel to teach the teachers adequately, adding that existing teachers should be re-trained.

She stressed the need to upgrade the teaching level, adding that there is always a refresher course that could be offered at the primary and secondary school level. She said the standards of the private schools in terms of facilities, among others should also be properly scrutinised.

Adepetun also expressed concern over the quality of graduates in the country, saying, “the quality of education we got in the university we went to in those days is different from what we have now, we could speak English Language and write very well, but these days you get someone coming out with a distinction and you have to keep correcting his English. It’s a shame. The government needs to put in a lot of efforts into education from primary to tertiary institutions. There has been a lot of hue and cry for that to happen, but it is very important to our wellbeing and future leadership.

The graduate of Economics from the University of Lagos said she believes that the children of today are going to be the leaders of tomorrow if they are given education that will make them to be marketable and useful to the society.

She said the school shop is something she has had passion for and is fulfilling a need with it, adding, “it’s a bit of a seasonal business, the time when you sell the most is when schools are resuming.”

On her challenges, she listed high operating cost because of power problem, getting good staff, funding, among others, saying, “almost every location that we are, they have a certain standard that they want to meet, we have to turn on the air conditioner so that our items will not get dirty and that is very expensive.
