Resign Now, New Oyo CP Tells Corrupt Officers
The new Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Leye Oyebade, yesterday read a riot act to the men of his command in what appeared to be a policy direction he intends to pursue with vigour in the task of policing the state.
Oyebade, described yesterday as “a well-trained, focused, hardworking and thorough-bred professional’’ by his predecessor, Muhammed Katsina, who handed over the baton of policing the state to him, called on corrupt officers of the command to resign before it is too late.
Beaming with confidence that a new lease of life has come to the state with a renewed effort to sustain the tempo left behind by Katsina, Oyebade who arrived the police headquarters at exactly 10:55a.m. was greeted with fanfare by the rank and file of the officers in the state.
According to him, the wind of change has berthed in Oyo hence the need for all officers of the command to imbibe the culture of service, professional best practices and discipline to jointly lift the force to enviable height.
Furthermore, Oyebade while admonishing the officers of the command to be of good conduct in the service to their fatherland, said new vision and dynamism have been introduced to the Nigeria Police by the Inspector General of Police (IG), Solomon Arase, with the aim of giving the force a friendly image.
He said: “I am taking over from one of the best and brightest officers and I have tremendous admiration for his achievements. I am here to continue the good work already done by him. I have been briefed about the teamwork existing among officers and men of the command so I salute their resolve to reduce crime in the state.
“Let me reiterate the commitment of the police high command to change perception of the police and a reactive, corrupt and lethargic institution. It will be dangerous for a police officer that is not ready to imbibe the culture of professional best practices, diligence and discipline to remain in the force today. My advice to such officers is to kindly tender their resignation before they are fished out and flushed out.”
