IGP Orders Probe of Hausa-Yoruba Clash in Ile-Ife

in Osogbo The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Abubakar Idris has ordered probe of the communal clash which occurred recently between Yoruba and Hausa in Ile-Ife, Osun State.

The IGP has appointed the Commission­er in charge of Military Police at the force headquarte­rs Abuja, Hammed Bello to head the probe panel instituted by the police.

The probe panel, according to police source, is to look into both immediate and remote causes of the clash in the ancient town of Ile Ife and its finding will be submitted to the police authoritie­s for appropriat­e action so as to prevent future occurrence of the incident.

Bello has consequent­ly arrived Osun State on a factfindin­g mission on the incident. The acting commission­er of Police in the state, Abubakar Koji conducted the panel team round the scene of the incident

The team is expected to visit leaders of both Yoruba and Hausa communitie­s in Ile Ife is well pay visit on the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi in his palace as well as other stakeholde­rs in the city.

The Command Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Folasade Odoro confirmed the arrival of Bello in the state. She said the visit was aimed at ensuring that the incident does not repeat itself and work out how peace shall reign between Yoruba and Hausas in the town in particular, the state and Nigeria in general.
