Inside Don Jazzy’s Flobyte Free WiFi Launch
The Founder and CEO, MAVINS Records, Michael Collins Ojereh otherwise known as Don Jazzy certainly knows how to put his money where his mouth is. Recently, he partnered with technology firms to unravel a free WiFi package by Flobyte for public spaces including hotels, restaurants, parks and eateries. Before this intervention, he had generously shared recharge cards on his social media accounts to enable his numerous fans access his works as well as those of the MAVINS artists.
In a brief ceremony held in Lagos, Don Jazzy, a man of little words, revealed how the partnership evolved and the benefit for the creative industry at large and start-ups too.
“Basically, it is different people coming together to solve a problem. I have always wanted to play in the technological space. This is the first one that I have made public. There are other ones where I am a private partner. For this one, I am a co-founder,” he began.
For the content producer, it is not enough to sit back and make music. What is more satisfying is to see the music sell, the ratings swell and an increase in the number of views.
“It will be nice to see your viewers access your work online. Like you said, I sell music online. Even if it is not for 24 hours, but the little time that you are outside your house, you can access it. If you look at our analytics on how our music is being consumed, you will see that people that buy or stream are from the United States, United Kingdom and other African countries. If we have good WiFi here, we know the figures will increase because our core fan base is here in Nigeria,” he said.
As much as it is desirable for him and his partners to widen the frontiers of the free WiFi network, accessing government-owed facilities is still a bottleneck.
“There is a lot of politics in getting into government facilities. But by God’s grace we are taking it as far as we can. Flobyt WiFi network will help more fans to access artists’ music. Beyond that, if you have a major event, we can come there and activate the wifi and use the platform to even promote our works.”
Don Jazzy promised that the recharge card give-aways will continue inspite of this new WiFi benefit. Although he is no longer a telecommunications company brand ambassador, his new vision with the Flobyte free WiFi initiative is bigger than any endorsement package he can hope for in Nigeria.
For Dele Odufuye, the CEO, Tsaboin, it is a partnership that will garner new online audiences for content producers. He explained how small business owners stand to benefit from the initiative using power point presentation. The internet router is essentially a plu-and-play device that is user-friendly.
