-

Yoruba Tennis Club has bestowed honours on some of its outstanding members as part of activities to mark the 50th anniversary of Lagos State.

Presenting the awards recently in Lagos, the state Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, represented by the Commissioner for Tourism and Home Affairs, Mrs. Adebimpe Olusola, said: “Lagos has made the dream of its founding fathers a reality. It is small in size, but the state has remained the most prosperous in the federation.

“And it currently ranks as the fifth largest economy in Africa. Indigenes of Lagos have every reason to celebrate the achievements which would not have been possible without the sacrifice and commitment of individuals and organisations.”

Great men and women who rendered selfless service to the state in both public and private capacities were also remembered.

The governor continued: “Individually, we must continue to accord pride of place to social clubs and forge strategic partnership with them in our collective efforts to build a small city of our dream.”

Earlier, the Chairman of the club, Ayo Martins, charged residents to invest more in tourism with a view to generating bigger revenue outside oil in the state.

The recipients were Folarin Coker, Ernest Balogun, Iyiola Omisore, Joseph Agboola and Adeoye Thomas.
