Citibank Rewards Journalists
Citibank Nigeria Limited, hosted the three finalists of the 2017 Citi Journalistic Excellence Award (CJEA) to a private ceremony which took place in Lagos recently. The CJEA is an annual Citi contest held as a way of recognising journalists for excellence in Financial and Business reporting in the markets. The winner, Caleb Ojewale whose article bagged him the award was present alongside the first runner up, Femi Joshua Asu, and the second runner up, Isaac Ifeanyi Anyagwu. The Managing Director, Citibank Nigeria, Akin Dawodu in his opening remarks stated that: “We had so many participants who also contributed and did very well. The top three articles were sent to Colombia University Graduate School of Journalism who then screened those nominated and selected the winner for each territory. The most prominent aspect of the award is the winners participation in an eight days business and financial seminar in New York City, which hosted Columbia’s Graduate School of Journalism and sponsored by Citi Bank. “We are keen on helping to work with journalists on financial and business issues to raise a quality coverage of global and market specific economic issues. We also run trainings from time to time for financial journalists which we do locally. “This year we are partnering with Lagos Business School in order to basically update the skills of financial journalists in order to educate the public on financial matters,” Dawodu added. The CJEA began in 1982 by recognising quality business journalism around the world and basically to help support efforts all over the globe. The nominees were selected by independent panels that Citi assembled.
