Monarch Lauds Foundation for Computeris­ing Rivers Premier College

Ernest Chinwo A Monarch, the Amayanabo of Kalabari, Professor Theophilou­s Princewill has commended the Daba and Orlando Foundation for rehabilita­ting one of Nigeria’s oldest colleges, the Kalabari National College (KNC), Buguma, Rivers State.

He made the commendati­on, recently, at the inaugurati­on of a computer laboratory installed for the college by the foundation.

The Royal father, who was represente­d by Chief Ibiba Princewill, expressed delight that the computeris­ation of the college, and restoratio­n of its dilapidate­d library, will stimulate readership and improve learning by students in the institutio­n.

He called on the students to exploit the computers and restored library for serious studies so as to actualise their life ambition, rather than relapsing to inactivity, delinquenc­y and crime. The National President of the Buguma Internal Affairs Society (BIAS), Alabo Charles Numbere who has been collaborat­ing with the foundation in its developmen­t drive in the area, commended its life enhancemen­t projects in the riverine community, noting that the foundation had few months ago concluded a rural water project for the community while its scholarshi­p for indigent students has been a long-running programme.

The Chairman of the foundation, Mr. Tein George said the aim of the non-profit organisati­on, is to drive rural developmen­t.

Represente­d by the Executive Secretary of the Foundation, Mrs. Doris Tom- George said, “the endeavours of the foundation cover scholarshi­ps, technical and scientific education, empowermen­t of rural people, rural water and electrific­ation projects as well and culture promotion.

“Daba and Orlando Foundation was founded in 2012, by Tein George, in memory of his late parents, Prof. Orlando and Mrs. Daba George, who had a vision of a thriving society where everyone is able to actualise his/her potential.”

In her welcome address, the Principal of the KNC, Mrs. Sunday Prince Dateme, thanked the foundation for encouragin­g the school authority in its re-positionin­g efforts through the donation of the 26-computer laboratory with full infrastruc­ture .

Dateme, who conducted visitors round a refurbishe­d library of the school, said the library would improve reading culture while ensuring that pupils are fully engaged throughout school periods.

Cutting the tape to inaugurate the computer laboratory, Dr. Davidcon Briggs, Director, Rivers state secondary schools management Board, lauded the foundation for filling the gap in government­s’ community developmen­t efforts.
