NSE Index gains 2.45%

Market pulse on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) today- Tuesday, August 1st, 2017 ended bullish as the market record positive changes. The equity market closed green due to positive performanc­es from the NSE Subsectors: Banking, Insurance and Consumer Goods (Save Oil & Gas). Correspond­ingly, trading activities increased in volume as 849.60 million shares worth N94.05 billion in 5,602 deals exchanged hands today. This is an increase from the 470.16 million shares worth N5.27 billion in 5,558 trades carried out on Monday. Topping in volume terms are: FBN Holdings Plc, Access Bank Plc and United Bank For Africa Plc; while Guaranty Trust Bank Plc and Internatio­nal Breweries Plc ended trading as the most active stocks in value terms. Brent crude oil price today shows downward signal as it dips to US$51.79 per barrel while it rose to $52.72 per barrel at its previous closing.

The All Share Index (NSEASI) closed positive with 2.45% (+876.62) increase to close at 36,720.62 from 35,844.00 the previous trading day. Market capitaliza­tion appreciate­d in tandem to N12.66 trillion from N12.35 trillion of prior trading day. However, the Thisday BGL 50 Index closes with a borderline decrease of 0.02% to 151.67 from 151.70 recorded at the end of the previous trading day, while its market capitaliza­tion stood at N11.81 trillion from N11.81 trillion of the previous trading day.

A total number of 32 stocks gained on the bourse today while 20 stocks declined, leaving 53 stocks unchanged. National Salt Co. Nig. Plc emerged the toast of investors as it topped the Thisday BGL 50 Index gainers’ list with a gain of 7.97% to close at N11.25 per share. It was followed by Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc with a gain of 5.18% to close at N12.59 per share. Others on the gainers chart include: PZ Cussons Nigeria Plc, Cadbury Nigeria Plc and Mansard Insurance Plc. On the decliners’ list, Forte Oil Plc led with a loss of 7.65% to close at N57.00 per share. It was followed by Julius Berger Nig. Plc with a loss of 5.00% to close at N34.20 per share. Others on the decliners’ list are: Okomu Oil Palm Plc, Unity Bank Plc and Lafarge Africa Plc.
